Abstract

The increasing number of women starting their own businesses in many countries led to numerous researches in the field of women entrepreneurship. However, the research carried out and results obtained apply mostly to developed countries and may not necessarily reflect the realities of developing countries (Hisrich and Öztürk, 1999). Consequently, research on women entrepreneurs in less developed countries and in Mauritius is scant. This study explores some of the most pertinent issues related to women entrepreneurs in Mauritius, a small developing island state. It is intended to explore the factors that affect women entrepreneurship. For this study, a qualitative research approach is adopted in the form of in-depth interviews and consisting of thirty women entrepreneurs.
